We would like to invite all foster carers to attend this Myth Busting Session
Do you have worries or concerns when it comes to fostering an Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Child (UASC)?
If so then this is the session for you.
This session is about trying to unpick the worries you have and where possible try to reassure you. I very much hope it is a session where you can be as honest with us as possible, so that we can better understand the concerns you have. We know that the press tend to only report on the bad or negative aspects of fostering UASC, but by hearing from a social worker who works closely with this group of young people as well as foster carers who have looked after them, I hope that some of your worries/concerns may be alleviated.
I would strongly urge as many of you as possible to attend this session. Only by hearing your voice can we make sure that we are doing what we can to support you. There is a piece of national work underway looking at training requirements/needs for foster carers looking after this specific group of young people, as it is recognised that bespoke training for carers looking after UASC is needed.
Turning up doesn’t mean that you will be pounced upon to provide a placement, but it will mean that you are in a more informed position when you may receive the call requesting a placement.
