KEYNOTE: Developing Children's Language - Cherry Hawker
Being an effective communicator is a key skill children require in order to become a successful learner. This session will explore key stages of development young children go through as they become successful communicators. It will also explore the vital role of adults in developing children’s language at all stages of development, especially as children are introduced to challenging and exciting words as they explore new learning concepts.
WORKSHOPS Delegates will attend 2 pre-bookable workshops:
Maths and Counting: Challenging more able children - Cherry Hawker
This highly practical workshop will enable teachers and teaching assistants to explore ways to facilitate and teach key concepts of mathematics. In particular it will focus on supporting more able children to challenge their thinking and to extend their own learning through both adult led activities and continuous provision.
Emotion Coaching - Jessica Bryant & Paula Young
Emotion Coaching is an approach developed by John Gottman, based on the observations of different parenting styles and evidence regarding the neuropsychology of emotion. This workshop will give you an introduction to the following:
¡ The neuroscientific background to emotional development
¡ Links to attachment theory
¡ Applying evidence of emotional development to behavioural policies
¡ The 4 common approaches to managing emotional situations
¡ The 4 steps of emotion coaching: labelling, empathising, limit-setting and problem solving
On the Move - Sharon Drew
Physical skills development for children is fundamental to learning and research suggests that children learn best through active involvement. However, more recently concerns have been expressed that many children are entering school with immature motor skills. In this workshop Sharon will explore the importance of physical skills development and how to support these across the curriculum. During the session, opportunities will be provided for practitioners to gain hands on activity ideas to use within their schools, which both challenge and support children’s motor skills. This workshop will be a combination of presentation and practical activities so participants will need to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to have some fun.
Supporting the Literacy Development of our Disadvantaged Children - Claire Perry
This workshop is for teachers and teaching assistants who are striving to improve literacy outcomes for disadvantaged children. Parents are children’s first educators and have a huge influence on their development. Supporting parents to play an active role in their children’s learning can make a valuable and lasting difference to children’s lives and outcomes. We will identify key strategies that will support you to inspire parents and enable children to always see themselves as readers and writers.
Meeting the Challenge of Ofsted - Andrew Best
This will focus on the Ofsted evidence trail for your school and what the inspectors will be looking for in the Early Years including:
