Event description
This course will explore abuse in the context of the spectrum of behaviours and actions experienced and perpetrated by young people. It will focus on strategies and approaches to developing in young people the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise signs of abuse and define appropriate responses, both those that they control and those that they need support from family, friends, school or external agencies to deal with. The course will highlight links with, and areas where it builds on, learning and skills arising from the developing healthy relationships and understanding sexual consent courses we offer
Learning outcomes
This training provides an opportunity to;

1. Explore abuse as a spectrum of behaviours, identifying examples of how these manifest, how they escalate and the impact they have on the person on the receiving end

2. Explore the links between gender inequality, esteem, worth and abuse, and how these are underpinned by modern media and communication

3. Recognise how resources designed to improve young people’s feelings of esteem, value and worth are central to developing their confidence in relation to taking control of situations that are impacting on them

4. Use and evaluate practical resources that encourage young people to critically explore abusive behaviours, recognising their potential to control outcomes
