Event description
This course is for all childminders, newly registered or experienced, who wish to explore and reflect on how they can ignite a child’s interest as they begin to read and write. “One in five 11 year olds in England cannot read well, rising to one in three among those from disadvantaged backgrounds.” Read On Get On (2015) How can we support all children to develop a love of books and why is it important in children so young? In today’s busy and increasingly technological world how do we ensure children have the opportunity to explore books and print both in our settings and at home? How do reading skills weave themselves throughout all areas of the EYFS? This practical session is designed to support childminders working with children aged 3 – 4. There will be opportunities to explore and share ideas, research and strategies to help you develop early reading skills both indoors and outdoors. “If we don’t learn to love books we don’t read. And if we don’t read widely, we don’t think deeply.” Michael Rosen
