Learning outcomes
To gain a deeper understanding of loss, grief and bereavement; the feelings, responses and reactions that may be associated with it
To enhance understanding of the many different factors that can influence a personðs grief response (for example: the age of the child/young person who died, an individualðs relationship to the child/young person who died, the cause of death, other pressures on the family, the wider community)
To consider how some understanding of grief and grief theory can enhance practices in the workplace and aid communication with bereaved families
To gain confidence in talking about the child and their death with families
To gain an understanding of how to enhance the care and support offered to all members of the grieving family when a child dies and when to refer to other support
To develop a small ðtool-kitð of ideas that may help grieving families
To consider the potential for vulnerability when working with issues of loss and grief, and the importance of self-awareness and establishing appropriate boundaries in this work. To recognise the importance of support for professionals and volunteers working with family bereavement
