This is a virtual course delivered by Sarah Wigley, commissioned on behalf of the South Glos Safeguarding Adults Board.

ongoing basis who are or may be experiencing domestic abuse.

Learning outcomes
1. Explore the importance of early risk identification, intervention, and prevention
2. Consider the need for evidencing professional concerns to enable an informed multi agency response
3. Consider current barriers to addressing domestic abuse and coercive control within the context of
section 42 enquiries
4. Consider the DASH risk assessment tool and how it can be used to assess risk for adult victims and can
provide important information in relation to safeguarding adults
5. Recognise the range and pattern of behaviours that enable a perpetrator to maintain control within
family relationships
6. Identify the potential for professionals to inadvertently collude with the perpetrator and the impact
that may have on victims
7. Highlight the barriers to disclosing abuse to a professional and leaving an abusive relationship
8. Consider the need for defensible decision making and the application of MSP when working with
victims of domestic abuse
