This bespoke workshop for the 0-25 Service's Transitions Team aims to enable participants to gain an insight into deafness and to develop basic communication skills to use with deaf and hard of hearing people.
It includes practical exercises (e.g. lip reading test and how much sign language can you learn in half an hour?)
Learning outcomes
Why understanding deafness is so important. Understanding categories of deafness and the difference between deaf people. Facts and fiction about lip reading. Understanding Deaf BSL users. Understanding people with an acquired hearing loss. Facts and fiction about hearing aids and cochlear implants. How new technology and listening aid/visual alert equipment can transform the lives of deaf people.
