Event description
The Equality Act 2010 states that service providers must make sure they meet the requirements of equality law.
This includes making sure staff are sufficiently trained to deal with and support customers or service users, along with the need to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people.
For South Gloucestershire Council employees, this training links to Empowering Others - one of the Behaviours within the Council's Framework

This 1-day workshop will provide information to help meet these essential service requirements.

Learning outcomes
To explore the impact of prejudice which leads to the discrimination of Disabled people in our society.
To debate what underpins this.
To discover the different approaches to Disability and understand the differences between the Medical and Social models
To examine the legal definitions surrounding the rights of Disabled People and take a brief look at The Equality Act 2010
To examine the barriers which Disabled people may experience
To identify and build on your good practice, turning this into an action plan which can be taken beyond the training day.
