Event description
Our Young People understandably do not like the word 'Contact', and in an effort to try and help lessen the use of this word, we have replaced it with  'Keeping in Touch', which we hope you will all approve of.

The course this year will run over three days. Day 1 will focus on why 'keeping in touch'  is important for everyone. Day 2 will look at how we plan for successful 'keeping in touch' sessions.

Day 3 ( you will need to book on to this separately  - course code SGC/19/325) ) is aimed at Social Workers and Social Work Assistants and will focus on Observation, Recording and Analysis for 'Keeping in Touch'. This is running on 15th May 2019, at Poole Court

Day 1 and 2
Workshop aims: - To know what 'Keeping in Touch' is and can be - To consider research findings to ensure 'Keeping in touch' is in the child's best interest and promotes security and stability - To consider a range of experiences and what research tells us about them - To consider the potential psychological and emotional impact of 'keeeping in touch' upon all parties - To consider how to use 'keeping in touch' to facilitate and promote healthy relationships. We will share with you the 'Voice' of our young people looked after on this subject. In addition to this we will also have an Independent Reviewing Officer present, who will be able to explain the councils policy on 'Keeping in Touch' and the process required should the amount of time that this happens needs to be changed.
Learning outcomes
Workshop objectives: - To share experiences of contact and what has worked effectively - To recognise that children and young people's needs change and that contact should postively reflect this - To understand the different roles of workers in managing direct contact and how these roles needs to complement and not compete with each other - To fully consider the child/young person/family/carer perspectives
