Event description
This is a 2-day workshop for managers in the council's Integrated Children's Services and Adult Social Care Services divisions. It is split into two 1-day sessions (in mid-June & then early-July). The main focus of the workshop is on exploring really practical tools and approaches for managing, supporting and challenging teams and individuals, including aspects such as coaching, communication and performance. The workshop will be led by Lenny Bedoyan.
Learning outcomes
Summary of key content: Understanding your own management/leadership motivators - what drives us, and the motivators of staff. "Control dartboard" - a chance to “clear the decks” of frustrations or worries. Encouraging individual ownership and responsibility; recognising when things are beyond our control. Understanding where our beliefs come from and the impact they can have on our working relationships. A structure to help deliver some of the more “difficult” messages. Support and Challenge matrix – ensuring staff feel appropriately challenged, balanced with an appropriate level of support. Transactional Analysis - understanding how difficult communication can start; tools and strategies to manage those conversations in an adult, productive manner. Introduction to coaching skills - the what, where and when. An understanding of the basic questioning techniques and structure in conversational coaching. The practical tools to enable a coaching conversation to take place: practising the use of questions and observational skills in coaching. NLP model – giving insight into our own triggers and understanding how we think; the impact on communication. A set of tools for encouraging individuals to take responsibility and ownership when problem solving.
