Event description
This course is for practitioners who would like to develop and improve their knowledge of developmental skills needed for children to become competent hand writers.

Children need to see themselves as writers by understanding the meaning of their marks from an early age. Handwriting is a physical skill that children acquire after they become competent with many gross motor movements.

During this course we will explore the requirements of your continuous provision to ensure children use all of their physical skills in developing muscle control and co-ordination which, in turn, will impact on their mark making abilities. We will look at examples of writing and mark making across the early years and some of the interventions available to support handwriting.
Learning outcomes
To understand why gross and fine motor control is vital for children to become competent mark makers.

To understand why some children find it more difficult to hold tools and make marks and explore some interventions to support building those skills.

To explore handwriting movements and the progression children need to obtain before becoming competent hand writers.
