Event description

These interactive sessions will support delegates to reflect on practice through professional dialogue and build skills in coaching and mentoring which will support staff development. This is a two-part course and delegates will be expected to attend both parts and complete a gap task in between.

Coaching is a means for practitioners to ‘deepen their learning, improve their performance and enhance the quality of provision in settings’.

(Leadership in early childhood 2006: 174)

Mentoring is ‘an interactive process through which managers and supervisors can develop employee capabilities’.

(Woods and Harmon)

This two-part course is for leaders, managers, deputies and room leaders who are seeking to develop skills for mentoring and coaching staff. It is ideal for practitioners new to leadership and management; deputies seeking to develop skills; and experienced leaders seeking to refresh and develop their skills and understanding.

This is a stand-alone two-part course which is two of 7 leadership and management sessions offered throughout the year. Together they will provide valuable support to leaders and managers. In addition, supporting materials are available on the VLE to further supplement knowledge and understanding of this subject.
